When the ‘Turtles’ meet up for a swim they take with them sacks to collect plastic that may have been washed up on the beach overnight. It is a seasonal problem, but there are a couple of months out of season when the wind blows in shore and plastic from the whole of the Indian Ocean can collect in large quantities.

Although it is other people’s rubbish, it is a task they take great pride in. They are taking responsibility for their own environment, and for the future of the local marine life. They have even turned it into a little competition between them as to who can collect the most.
